Questo video, da noi registrato e sottotitolato in inglese, è un estratto della trasmissione di italiana Report (Rai3) dell'11 maggio 2020. In questa inchiesta Report parla della gestione dell'emergenza Covid-19 da parte dell'Organizzazione Mondiale della sanità (OMS), e viene citato anche il caso Taiwan. Questa nazione infatti non fa parte dell'OMS, ma ha saputo comunque elaborare una strategia vincente contro la pandemia, anche talvolta ignorando le direttive dell'Organizzazione.
This video, that we recorded and subtitled in English, is an extract of the Italian tv program "Report" aired on Rai 3 network on 11/05/2020. In this journalistic inquiry Report talks about how the World Health Organization (WHO) handled the Covid-19 crisis, and also Taiwan's case is mentioned. Even though this nation is not part of WHO, it was able to elaborate a winning strategy against the outbreak, also sometimes ignoring the Organization's guidelines.

Report intervista anche l'Ambasciatore Taiwan in Italia Andrea Sing-Ying Lee, che racconta che a già a Dicembre i medici taiwanesi avevano avuto sentore della comparsa di un nuovo virus, leggendo i post privati dei medici cinesi che parlavano della presenza di nuovi anomali casi di polmonite. I post vennero subito censurati, ma i dottori taiwanesi fecero subito rapporto al governo centrale. Taiwan conosce bene la Cina, e non si fida. Parafrasando le parole dell'ambasciatore: Se la Cina dice che non c'è problema, allora c'è un problema; se la Cina dice che c'è qualche problema, allora c'è un grande problema; se la Cina dice a Taiwan di non preoccuparsi, noi siamo preoccupati.
Taiwan ha avvertito l'OMS della situazione, ma non è stata ascoltata. Si è mossa quindi in autonomia, con strategie di prevenzione e riconvertendo la produzione industriale in mascherine chirurgiche. Ad oggi, il numero di casi e decessi di Covid-19 è poco superiore a quello del video: 441 casi e 7 morti su una popolazione di 23 milioni di persone.
Report also interviews Andrea Sing-Ying Lee, the Taiwanese Ambassador in Italy, who tells that already in December taiwanese doctors suspected the appearance of a new virus, by reading Chinese doctor's private online post which were talking about the presence of new odd cases of pneumonia. The posts were immediately censored, but the Taiwanese doctors reported immediately the situation to the central government. Taiwan knows China well, and does not trust it. Paraphrasing the words of the Taiwanese Ambassador in Italy: if China says there's no problem, there is a problem; if China says there is some problem, there is a big problem; if China tells Taiwan not to worry, then we are worried.
Taiwan immediately informed the WHO about the situation, but nobody listened to it. Therefore Taiwan acted indipendently, using prevention strategies and converting the industrial production in sirurgical masks. Today, the number of Covid-19 cases and deaths is just slightly more than the video: 441 cases and 7 deaths on a population of 23 million people.
